The Statler Hotel at Cornell University is delighted to announce a career opportunity for a Front Office Manager to lead our Front Office Team.

Your role as a member of the Statler Hotel’s Leadership Team:
Statler Hotel managers are expected to lead with hospitality. We connect with each member of our staff, ensuring staff feel welcomed, comfortable and important.   • As the leader of our Front Office Team you will report to the Director of Rooms and you will be responsible for the overall management of Front Office operations, including: Bellstand/Valet, PBX, Reservations, Night Audit, and Front Desk.
  • You will be responsible for providing a world class level of service to guests of the Statler Hotel from the moment guests come into contact with our Bellstand and Front Office staff to their exit,including: greeting, luggage handling and telephone interactions at the Front Desk and Bellstand; efficiency of arrival and check- in; quality of guest room, amenities and services; comfort, security and safety; accuracy of billing, efficiency of check-out and departure.
  • You will be responsible for overseeing administrative management duties, including: tip reporting and weekly payroll, budgeting and meeting financial goals, conducting inventories and ordering supplies. You will have the opportunity to initiate and lead projects and lead/participate in management meetings as well as serve on committees in the hotel, school, and university.
  • You will coordinate the recruiting, hiring, training and supervision of all staff. You will also participate in the teaching mission by providing coaching and mentoring to student employees of the Front Office and by cooperating with faculty and students as a part of classes or research that may be integrated into the operation.
  • You will also serve as Manager-on-Duty (MOD) for the hotel, taking responsibility for the overall guest experience during their stay in the Statler Hotel and exercising discretion and independent judgment to ensure quality and service standards are met throughout the hotel. The MOD facilitates communication and cooperation between all operating departments, providing direction to staff, anticipating and responding to operational needs, maintaining inventory controls and overseeing cash handling procedures.

What we are looking for in a Front Office Manager:

  • Bachelors Degree and 2-4 years of relative experience working as a front office manager in a 4 star/diamond hotel.
  • Proven ability to assume responsibility, act decisively, and lead staff.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.’
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve guest problems quickly and calmly.
  • Must be driven and energetic with excellent customer service, teamwork and leadership skills.
  • Must be organized and able to multi-task.
  • Ability and enthusiasm to coach, mentor and train students as well as other inexperienced staff.
  • Computer skills, proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Good working knowledge of hotel management systems/revenue management/online travel agencies.
  • Professional demeanor fitting of a high end, four-diamond hotel property.
  • Valid US Driver’s License with clean driving record.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $65,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
